When a Pool Installation Is Also a Wellness Investment
Haven Wellness in Smeaton Grange approached Local Pools & Spas with a clear brief: a professional-grade contrast therapy setup that could serve serious recovery needs without compromising on finish or durability. The result is one of the most purposeful pool installations we've built — two Compass Relax 5m Express Pools in Bi-Luminite Vercoe, each configured for a specific thermal function.
The hot plunge features a gas heater and six spa jets for targeted hydrotherapy — warming the body, loosening muscles, and promoting circulation. The cold plunge is fitted with a chiller for contrast therapy and post-exercise recovery — reducing inflammation, accelerating muscle repair, and delivering the kind of physiological reset that elite athletes and everyday wellness seekers are increasingly seeking.
Together, the two pools provide a balanced, professional-grade wellness offering. The Bi-Luminite Vercoe colour gives both pools a visually cohesive, premium feel — a deep, sophisticated tone that suits the calm, restorative environment of a wellness facility perfectly.
The Compass Express Pool range was the right choice here — factory-ready for a faster timeline, built to the same exacting Compass standard, and compact enough to fit within the commercial space without requiring extensive civil works.

The Science Behind Hot & Cold Contrast Therapy
Contrast therapy — alternating between hot and cold immersion — is one of the most effective recovery tools used by elite athletes and physiotherapists worldwide. The principle is simple: heat dilates blood vessels and relaxes muscles, while cold constricts them and reduces inflammation. Moving between the two creates a pumping effect in the circulatory system that accelerates recovery, reduces soreness, and promotes mental clarity.
🔥
Hot Plunge
Gas heated to hydrotherapy temperature. Six spa jets provide targeted muscle relief. Increases circulation, reduces tension and prepares the body for cold immersion.
❄️
Cold Plunge
Chiller-controlled for consistent cold therapy. Reduces inflammation, accelerates muscle recovery and delivers the hormonal and metabolic benefits of cold exposure.
We Build for Businesses Too
Most of our work is residential — but this project is a reminder that Compass fibreglass pools are equally at home in a commercial setting. Gyms, wellness centres, physiotherapy practices, hotels, sporting clubs — anywhere that benefits from a durable, low-maintenance, premium aquatic facility.
The Express Pool range is particularly well suited to commercial applications — factory-ready pools available in compact shapes that can be installed quickly with minimal disruption. The Ceramic Core construction means they'll withstand the demands of high-use commercial environments, and the Bi-Luminite Vercoe finish gives a premium aesthetic that reflects well on any facility.
If you're a business owner or facility manager considering an aquatic wellness installation, we'd love to discuss what's possible.
