Proprietary Pool Technology

The Strongest
Fibreglass Pool.

Compass pioneered the ceramic core pool — a proprietary composite structure that is dramatically stronger than standard fibreglass. It's built into every pool we install — not an upgrade.

The Ceramic Core Difference

Why Compass Pools Are Structurally Superior

Compass pioneered ceramic core pool technology to dramatically enhance the strength and durability of every pool we put in the ground. Where standard fibreglass pools use polyester resin throughout the shell, Compass uses a proprietary combination: a vinyl ester resin layer at the gelcoat interface (significantly more water-resistant), combined with a ceramic-infused composite core.

The result is a pool shell that resists osmotic blistering, flex under load, and structural degradation over decades — backed by a lifetime structural warranty on Bi-Luminite pools.*

"You guys have got a ceramic core — it's as simple as that. I've seen a lot of pool shells. The structural integrity of a Compass pool is in a different league."

— Paul Bennet, Trojan Fibreglass

What Is the Ceramic Core?

The Ceramic Core structure is a proprietary composite process that embeds ceramic particles within the fibreglass matrix. This dramatically enhances the pool's resistance to flex, cracking and osmotic blistering — the three main failure modes in standard fibreglass pools.

💧

Vinyl Ester Resin Barrier

Each Compass pool also includes a layer of vinyl ester resin at the gelcoat interface — significantly more water-resistant than the polyester resin used in standard fibreglass pools. This barrier layer provides additional protection against osmosis and long-term water ingress.

How the Ceramic Core Structure Is Built

Every Compass pool shell is built using a proprietary multi-layer process at the Australian manufacturing facility.

1

Bi-Luminite Gelcoat

The pool begins with the two-layer Bi-Luminite colour coat — providing the colour, finish and 10-year cosmetic warranty.

2

Vinyl Ester Resin Barrier

A layer of vinyl ester resin is applied directly behind the gelcoat — creating a highly water-resistant barrier layer that prevents osmotic blistering.

3

Proprietary Ceramic Core

The ceramic composite core is applied — dramatically increasing structural rigidity and resistance to flex under load, soil movement and temperature variation.

4

Maxi Rib Reinforcement

The pool shell is reinforced with the Maxi Rib system — enabling above-ground and infinity edge installations impossible with standard fibreglass.

Ceramic Core vs Standard Fibreglass

Compass Ceramic Core

✓Vinyl ester resin barrier layer
✓Proprietary ceramic composite core
✓Dramatically stronger under load
✓Osmotic blister resistant
✓Lifetime structural warranty (Bi-Luminite)*
✓Supports above-ground & infinity edge installs

Standard Fibreglass

✗Polyester resin throughout — more water-permeable
✗No ceramic reinforcement
✗More susceptible to flex and cracking
✗Higher risk of osmotic blistering over time
✗Shorter structural warranty typical
✗Limited above-ground capability

Ceramic Core Questions — Answered

What is the Ceramic Core and why does it matter?

The Ceramic Core is a proprietary composite structure pioneered by Compass Pools in the 1990s. It combines a vinyl ester resin barrier layer with a ceramic-infused fibreglass core — creating a pool shell that is dramatically stronger than standard fibreglass, more resistant to osmotic blistering, and better able to handle soil movement and temperature variation over decades.

Is the Ceramic Core available on all Compass pools?

Yes — Ceramic Core is standard on every Compass pool, in every shape and size. It is not an upgrade or an optional extra. When you buy a Compass pool through Local Pools & Spas, the proprietary Ceramic Core structure is included as part of the pool shell.

What structural warranty does a Compass pool carry?

Bi-Luminite pools carry a lifetime structural warranty from Compass Pools Australia.* Vivid pools carry a 25-year structural warranty. Both are significantly above the industry standard. The HydroPro hydrostatic protection valve also carries its own lifetime warranty.

How does a Compass pool compare to a concrete pool for strength?

The comparison is different to what people expect. Concrete is rigid — but over time it can crack with soil movement. A well-designed fibreglass pool shell with Ceramic Core is engineered to flex slightly under load without cracking, while remaining dramatically stronger than standard fibreglass. Both approaches work well when properly installed, but the Ceramic Core offers better long-term performance in varying soil conditions.
