The Problem It Solves

What Is Hydrostatic Pressure — and Why Does It Matter?

When a pool is drained — for cleaning, maintenance, or repair — groundwater pressure can build beneath the shell. If this pressure is high enough, it can lift a fibreglass pool shell out of the ground. This is called hydrostatic lift — and it's one of the most damaging and costly things that can happen to a pool.

Standard hydrostatic relief valves provide some protection, but they can be slow to respond and can fail over time. That's why Compass spent three years developing the HydroPro™ valve — a patented, automatic system that is 5 times faster and backed by a lifetime warranty. It's no longer new or experimental: we've been installing the HydroPro™ valve for more than 10 years, and it's proven itself in pools right across Sydney.

Without Protection

A pool lifted by hydrostatic pressure can cost tens of thousands of dollars to repair or replace — and the damage can happen in hours after draining.

🌊

Groundwater Pressure Builds

When a pool is drained, the water that was counteracting groundwater pressure is removed. In areas with a high water table or after heavy rain, this pressure can build rapidly.

⬆️

The Shell Can Be Lifted

Without effective relief, the groundwater pressure pushes up against the base of the pool shell — potentially lifting it out of the ground entirely, distorting or cracking the shell.

✅

HydroPro™ Relieves the Pressure

The HydroPro™ valve detects rising groundwater pressure and relieves it automatically — 5 times faster than standard valves — before lift can occur.

How the HydroPro™ Valve Works

A patented mechanism developed over 3 years of R&D and proven over 10+ years in the field — not an off-the-shelf component.

1

Pool Is Drained

When the pool water level drops, groundwater pressure begins to build beneath the shell — the critical window for hydrostatic lift.

2

Pressure Is Detected

The HydroPro™ valve's patented mechanism detects the pressure differential automatically — with no manual intervention required.

3

Valve Opens — 5× Faster

The valve opens automatically, allowing groundwater to enter the pool shell — relieving pressure before it can lift the pool. Five times faster than standard valves.

4

Valve Closes Automatically

When the pool is refilled and water pressure is restored, the valve closes automatically. No manual operation, no maintenance.

HydroPro™ Questions — Answered

What is the HydroPro™ valve?

The HydroPro™ is a patented automatic hydrostatic relief valve — the world's first of its kind. It was developed by Compass Pools over three years of R&D specifically to address the limitations of standard hydrostatic valves. We've been installing it for more than 10 years now, so it's well and truly proven technology — not something new or untested. It is five times faster to respond and is backed by a lifetime warranty.

Do all pools need hydrostatic protection?

Any fibreglass pool that may need to be drained is at risk of hydrostatic lift — particularly in areas with a higher water table, after heavy rain, or in clay-based soils that retain moisture. Sydney's Greater South West has variable soil and drainage conditions, making reliable hydrostatic protection important. We include it as standard on every pool we install.

Does HydroPro™ require any maintenance?

No — the HydroPro™ valve operates automatically. It opens under hydrostatic pressure and closes when water pressure is restored. There are no moving parts to service and no manual operation required. It is a set-and-forget protection system backed by a lifetime warranty.

What does the lifetime hydrostatic warranty cover?

The lifetime hydrostatic warranty from Compass Pools covers the pool against damage caused by hydrostatic pressure — specifically the risk of hydrostatic lift when the pool is drained. This is a genuine world-first warranty backed by the patented HydroPro™ system. Conditions apply — refer to the Compass Pools Australia warranty documentation for full details.
